Day
1 :
8.00 Departure from Nantes or Angers to Fontevraud by coach.
10.00 Visit of the Royal Abbey, one of the most important monasteries
of Europe.
Former Necropolis of the Plantagenet kings, it houses the tombs of Henri
II Plantagenet, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lion Heart.
Lunch and wine tasting in the old stables of “Château de Brézé”.

Discovery of its outstanding underground passages, recently discovered,
which had housed up to 2000 people!
Visit of a strange cave in Denezé-sous-Doué where there
are 400 carved characters taken from the imagination of a clandestine
brotherhood in the 16th century.
Evening at the “château de Pimpéan” at Gresille.
Discovery of the property and its superb medieval painted chapel. Wine
tasting and dinner during which you will sample a local speciality “Fouées”
(hollow buns stuffed with beans, potted mince, butter, cheese…).
Overnight at Saumur, hotel***.
Day
2 :
At St Hilaire St Florent, demonstration and introduction to the “Boule
de Fort”, a traditional and local game of bowls.
Visit of the Bouvet- Ladubay cellars, famous producer of the first brut
of the Loire. Tasting and discovery of the store.
Stop at Cunault church, a masterpiece of the Roman art.
Lunch at a wine grower’s in the Layon region. Visit of the cellar
and the property.
16.30 Discovery of « Domaine du Closel » at Savennières,
which vines are 2000 years old ! Walk through the vineyard ans tasting
of 5 wines produced on the domain.
19.30 Return to Nantes or Angers.
« Intoxicating » conference combining History of art and wine (with video-projector).
